Mob spawn rates

I have realized that spawn rates are really low on this server.
I am trying to understand why, so I went looking for explanations.

This is the value set by default for each type of mob:

Hostile = 70
Passive = 10
Ambient (Bats) = 15
Water = 5


cap = constant * chunks / 256

We really only care about hostiles I think, when I am alone in the server I normally get 20 entities around me, no where else in the map there are mobs, lets assume that those 20 are hostiles.

With the spawn chuncks + the chuncks around me we should at least have E: 80 around me

cap = 70 * (12x12 + 12x12) / 256 <- Assuming that the view distance is 12
cap = 79

This doesnt seem to be right though.

I was looking into the problem and I find out that if the server has 9 or less view distance most mobs wont spawn, I dont know what is happening right now but what I can think of is the server having a different cap, monsters stuck that dont despawn because of items in their hands / armor or the view distance is low.

Are you asking to raise the view distance? Go and check around spawn and see how many entities you get there.

Right now with a few players online I am getting 12 Entities, so I would assume ~10 monsters.

Haha, please don't raise any of these limits. Remember the last map? When people stayed in places so long that the increased difficulty feature got so out of had that most people had dozens and dozens and dozens of mobs surrounding them? Just wait. It will get much harder soon
